Silt Protectors

To protect the environment against turbidity caused by fine silt, which is released during dredging and excavation work in open water, silt screens are increasingly required and used.

For installation in the open sea or in sheltered inland waters, Geopex has the best silt protector for every type of work.

These Silt screens or silt protectors are available in heavy, ocean-resistant versions, with extra heavy-duty connections and tension belts, but we also produce lighter silt screens for more sheltered locations.

Screen types and versions

Silt screens, also known as silt curtains or silt protectors, are available in the following variants:

floating Silt Protector, equipped with floats and ballast
standing Silt Protectoscherm, fixed to the bottom
frame screen, is connected to a frame to protect a small area, for example round the dredger crane

During dredging operations, water becomes turbid. To keep this turbidity within a cordoned off area, silt screens are used.

Applying the type of screen, with the correct specifications, strongly depends on the circumstances, such as current, waves, water depth, length of the area to be cordoned off and water depth.

How silt protectors work

During dredging activities, the water becomes turbid. In order to keep this turbidity within a cordoned off area, silt screens are used. The screen is intended to allow the turbid water within the work area to settle and settle. In the case of current, the screen acts as a conductor, directing the turbid water to the bottom where it can settle.

Versions and options

In our workshop we manufacture silt screens in various designs, such as:

silt screens with special filling pockets to allow the screen to be weighted from above as required with ballast material of your choice, like concrete paving stones.
silt screens, from which the height can be adjusted, for example if the water level can fluctuate.
