Separation and stress distribution
Separation is the process of preventing two different materials in the foundation from mixing, which will reduce the load-bearing capacity of the structure, such as a road. To prevent this unwanted mixing of the valuable foundation materials and the subsurface, a geotextile is usually used. As a result, the foundation layer will continue to retain its properties, which improves the capacity and lifespan of the entire construction.
Reinforcing subsoils
If the subsoil is poor, or if heavy loads will occur, reinforcement in the structure will be required in addition to separation. Think for example of crane installation sites, necessary for the construction of wind farms or roads on very soft soil.
